vs1. Well I'm a heartless man, it was ripped away and thrown out. You made it clear just what you thought of me. I tried to win your heart after the 'I'll never part', I fought to have you near. You got up and walked away and left me here in tears. Ch. I couldn't make you treat your daddy right. The only thing we ever do good is fuss and fight. Who wants to live a life of misery? You got me good but you didn’t get the best of me. Vs.2 I'm a lonesome man even when you're right beside me. (The) days go by when we don't say a word. I'm so tired of lying and trying and dying a little more each day. I signed up for happy times and you threw it all away. Ch. I couldn't make you treat your daddy right. The only thing we ever do good is fuss and fight. Who wants to live a life of misery? You got me good but you didn’t get the best of me. You got me good but you didn’t get the best of me.

Life 04:17
Vs.1 I try to live a normal life. Sometimes I think i'd like a nine to five. Then I get to laughing, thinking what i'd do to keep myself alive. I've shoveled shit and swung a hammer, worked on cars and motorcycles and almost killed a boss or two. Go to school and get a job, and isn't that what we're supposed to do? Ch. How many times has someone asked you if you're really happy? How many times have you allowed yourself to really care? Ch. How many times has someone asked you if you're really happy? How many times have you allowed yourself to really care? Vs.2 I can't understand a man who works only where he can and abandoned all his dreams. Filled with rage and jealousy and regrets the man he chose to be. Like a cancer eating in his bones he's all alone with the torture in his mind. Saddest thing, he blames the rest of you, (but) it was with him all the time. Ch. How many times has someone asked you if you're really happy? How many times have you allowed yourself to really care?

Limited to driving forty-five and tilted to the right. Miles to go, I got 3 good tires & a donut, I pray I make it through the night. I'm low on gas and high as a rain cloud thundering down the road. I'll drive this old jalopy 'till I burn it up or until I make it home. Sleepless nights and nodding at the wheel trying to get to you. I've tried a bunch of highways riding around and found there ain't no substitute for a down-home-mama to whisper in my ear, while talking on the phone. She said, “Hurry sweet papa! Put your pedal to the metal and come and get you some!” Busted flat and broken-down glory coasting into town. I finally get a breather to clear my head and lay my weary hammer down but there isn't any rest for the working stiff. He's got to make a dime. I say hey pretty baby, let's go get crazy now or give me a better time!

Vs.1 I'm sure i'll disappoint and fail yet again. Being a man has its limits and ends. I ain't too bad a sinner but i'm not a saint. All I ask for if you choose to love me is a little restraint. Vs.2 You bite your tongue and i'll bite mine too. And i'll watch the words that I speak to you. And you'll guard your thoughts and keep em in check. All I ask for if you choose to love me is a little respect. Br. I could understand if I was a no good man and treated you just like a dog. If I raised my voice and lowered my hand then i'd deserve it all. But i'm an honest man and I treat you kind... I just want you to want to be mine. Vs.3 I ain't here to change or control what you do. And don't try to change me i'm no worse than you. I'll give you my all till death do us part. All I ask for if you choose to love me is take care of my heart. Vs.4 And when we get old and I lay you down. I'll visit you often while i'm still around. And I'll bring you flowers until it's my time. I want to thank you for loving me till the day that I die. and i'll be laying right there beside you the day that I die.

You read every book you could get your hands on about being a good man and doing no wrong. Well she didn't have the same thing in mind as you. She done you the wrong way, now you're feeling blue. You took her out for nights on the town. Honky-tonkin dancing and foolin' around. She took all your kindness and your wallet too. She done you the wrong way, now you're feeling blue. You tried everything you thought you should try, except being a mean man and dotting her eye. You ain't never hit a woman and it ain't right to do though she done you the wrong way, now you're feeling blue. She done you the wrong way, now you're feeling blue.

CH. Howdy mam what can I do you for? You say your man is gone away you need a little something more. Some kissing and a hugging, some midnight hour loving when he gets home i'll be running out your door. Vs.1 We played a show, not long ago, out in Kansas City. I spied a girl with long brown hair and my she looked so pretty. We shared a couple drinks and that got me to thinking...maybe she would let me bring her back up to my room where i'd say... CH. Howdy mam what can I do you for? You say your man is gone away you need a little something more. Some kissing and a hugging, some midnight hour loving when he gets home i'll be running out your door. Vs.2 I went to the bar last night to get myself a drink. The woman sitting next to me, she had a diamond ring. We started up a talking and found ourselves a walking to her house around the corner once behind her did I start to ask her... CH. Howdy mam what can I do you for? You say your man is gone away you need a little something more. Some kissing and a hugging, some midnight hour loving when he gets home i'll be running out your door. SOLO: Vs.3 Now I was off around the world playing in the band. While I was gone my little woman met another man. They shared a couple drinks and that must have got him thinking, looking at his cards he'd play his hand. And what i'm sure he said was... CH. Howdy mam what can I do you for? You say your man is gone away you need a little something more. Some kissing and a hugging, some midnight hour loving when he gets home i'll be running out your door.

Ease me daddy, don't let me go. You know I love the way you do me so. Hold me tight. Love me right. Keep my dreams sweet all through the night. Why don't you ease me daddy and don't you let me go. Vs.2 Ease me daddy and don't let up. I know you love me, I can't get enough. Keep me smiling, all the while and I'll make sure you're smiling too. Why don't you ease me daddy and don't you let me go. Vs.3 Ease me daddy, i'm here to stay. I want all your lovin everyday. I have to tell it, you're doing well and your lovin makes me want to yell. Why don't you ease me daddy and don't you let me go. Why don't you ease me daddy and don't you let me go.

CH.How do you know...where to draw the line? How many times of failing is too many times? And where am I supposed to go when i'm feeling so low and I know there's no way out. VS1. Let's spend some time together while i'm on the phone. We can sit and not have conversation watching my favorite show. And i'll pay you no mind 'till the end of the night when I just want some lovin'. And i'll make certain that you're feeling unsure and you'll wonder if i'm gonna stay. CH. VS2. On the last leg of a dying adventure there doesn’t seem much hope. I've spent so much time and effort trying just to cope. Well I'm not one to throw in the towel when things are going badly, But I never can tell when it's all shot to hell with no bucket to lower me down in. CH. VS3. I used to think everything I did would turn out to be just fine. As long as I answered all the questions and tried to tow the line. Now I know, it isn't so. I learned to pick and choose how and when to fight. Cause' getting taken got older and I grew bolder, I can tell you what I won't sacrifice. CH. and I know there's no way out.

Why? 02:34
Ch. Why do I do the stupid things I do? I sleep all day and then I drink till 2. I get involved in things that cause me pain. When trouble blows i'm like a weathervane. Vs.1 I got a little lady and one on the side. Neither one know about the truth I hide. One's a married woman but not to me, I see her everyday about a quarter to three. I get home, just in time, to see my little lady about a half past five. We share a meal and then we hit the bed and I go see the other one again at ten. Oh.... Ch. Vs.2 Sitting on a bar stool in some old dive. I ran into a fella who was six-foot-five. He said he didn't like me, I jumped the gun, I hit him in the throat and I thought he was done. A couple minutes later, on the ground, I opened up my eyes to my surprise i'd found the whole place erupted, what an awful mess. I crawled outside, got in my truck and left. Ch.
